BEAT THE HEAT WITH THESE TERRIFIC SUMMERTIME WINES
Looking for wines to serve during the dog-days of summer? Then think about this the next time you head to your local wine store: Approach summer wines the same way you think about summer clothing--it's as simple as that. You want wines that are light and refreshing--something that'll slake your thirst and pair well food. Save the heavy stuff for the wool sweaters and cold winter nights. Now's the time for whites with plenty of acidity and low alcohol such as Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris (or Pinot Grigio in Italy), and Riesling. If you're a red-wine lover (or just looking for yet another dimension of wine enjoyment), try a well-chilled rosé (my current favorite is made by the California winery Chateau Potelle). Here are a few of my top picks for the summer less than $12.
Saint Clair, Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand
Jardin, Sauvignon Blanc, South Africa
Annie's Lane, Riesling, Australia
Alois Lageder, Pinot Blano, Italy
Renwood, Pinot Grigio, California
Stone Wolf, Pinot Gris, Oregon
Miguel Torres, Sauvignon Blanc, Chile
Snoqualmie, Sauvignon Blanc, Washington
