Gambling isn’t the only reason people flock to Vegas. Thanks to casino owner and hotelier Steve Wynn, who opened Bellagio in 1998 and the new $2.7 billion Wynn Las Vegas last April, people find the over-the-top entertainment, shopping, and dining hard to resist.
Take Bellagio. From the comforts of your seat at the slot machine, you can spy Prada, Gucci, and Chanel, all part of the Via Bellagio storefronts. Shopping in The Venetian, at the Grand Canal Shoppes, feels like strolling in a gold-encrusted Italian villa. In minutes, you could drop a year’s salary--and many people do.
Dining is also an experience--you don’t just eat to tame your hunger. FIX restaurant & bar at Bellagio offers the perfect example. The food, from steaks cooked on a wood-burning grill to top-quality sushi-grade fish, is worthy of an award. Because pretty people love to eat here, though, dining comes with an attitude. You’ll want to be dressed as if you just fell off the pages of the latest fashion mags. Same goes for THEhotel at Mandalay Bay’s Mix, where Alain Ducasse serves mouth-watering French and American dishes, and N9NE Steakhouse at The Palms, where diners feast on prime-aged beef from chef Barry S. Dakake.
Remember these rules when you head out to the velvet-roped clubs and bars as well. “We’ll turn away 500 or more people tonight. If you’re in a well-dressed group with girls, you’re more likely to get in,” explains Sean Christie, a partner at Light nightclub at Bellagio, where you pay $30 just to walk through the door.
