By Arturo O. Martínez, Texas Tech University Press, $16.95
Give this to your young readers, but grab it from them as soon as they finish. The author, a lifelong journalist, penned this excellent fictive memoir about his boyhood in South Texas. It's
portrayed through 6-year-old Pedrito, who lives on a farm five hours south of San Antonio. He soon finds in that he travels between two cultures and must navigate his way through life in
both. Arturo is a graceful stylist who tells a story youngsters and adults will enjoy. Let's hope he writes more.
