Members of
this program are well-established professionals. Each member is reviewed
based on the following criteria:
- They
have an excellent reputation among local building trade and consumers.
They must exhibit strength in the marketplace, building a minimum of
five homes per year.
- Their
homes must demonstrate superior quality and attention to detail.They
must be financially sound with excellent credit based on reviews of
their submitted supplier and financial institutions.
Members must
meet the following requirements each year:
- Use each
Sponsor product at least once during the program year (the Sponsor products
may be used in different houses and the houses do not have to be Southern
Living plans).
- Submit
proof of purchase of specified sponsor products.
Maintain general liability insurance, including personal injury, property
damage, products and completed operations, with minimum limits of one
million dollars.
- Maintain
worker's compensation insurance. Builder will be required to furnish
evidence of insurance to Southern Living.
- Pay the
annual membership fee
- Show proof
of state contractors license (if required by state) or proof of
business
- Be available
for and respond to calls from readers, suppliers and sales representatives.
It is the
recommendation of Southern Living that in choosing any builder,
including our members, that you ask for the following information:
- Ask to
see their builder's license and proof of insurance.
- Ask for
references. Speak to their homeowners, suppliers and lenders.
- Make sure
that all warranties are in writing.
- Check
with your local Better Business Bureau.
