Makes about 2 cups (serving size: about 1/3 cup)

This pan gravy is a quick and easy way to bring even more flavor to your favorite poultry dishes. In just 10 minutes, you’ll have a delicious pan gravy to pair with any of our delicious chicken thigh recipes or chicken breast recipes (we recommend Pam Lolley’s Crispy Chicken). It will instantly elevate your weeknight meal to special-occasion status. This recipe makes about two cups of gravy using only a very short list of ingredients—all of which you probably already have on hand. If you’re a planner, freeze individual size portions (about 1/3 cup) of this gravy and pull one out of the refrigerator when you’re looking for a delicious hack for reheating leftover chicken. Just add the gravy to the pan along with chicken and heat. Serve over rice (try our Herbed Rice) for a complete meal. We kept this recipe super simple, but feel free to add in your favorite herbs for an extra dose of subtle flavor. If you want more options for your holiday roast or turkey, try our collection of gravy recipes. We have make-ahead gravy, mushroom gravy, sherry gravy, and fresh herb gravy. It’s safe to say there’s a gravy recipe for whatever you plan to cook up.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup melted salted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

How to Make

  • Whisk together 1/4 cup melted salted butter and 1/4 cup all-purpose flour in a large skillet. Cook over medium, whisking constantly, until bubbly, about 2 minutes. Gradually whisk in 2 cups chicken broth, 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Cook, whisking often, just until mixture comes to a boil and is smooth and thick, 2 to 5 minutes. (If mixture is too thick, stir in up to 1/2 cup more broth, 1/4 cup at a time, until desired consistency is reached.)
