The ingredient list might seem a bit extensive but, trust us, it’s worth it. Onions, carrots, celery, and garlic are sautéed prior to being added to the slow cooker. Next, you’ll just pile in the rest of the ingredients and cook on LOW for 8 hours. The sauce will cook an additional hour with the lid off. Season with salt and pepper and you’ll have dinner on the table in a flash! Serve with a hearty pasta like penne. We like topping this dish with Parmesan cheese and basil—but it’s flavorful enough on its own if you prefer to keep things simple. Serve with a quick and easy salad and dinner rolls for a complete meal. Our Herbed Beef Ragu is a great option for entertaining. Ingredients

  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 carrots, minced
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 pounds chuck roast, trimmed and cut into 4-inch pieces
  • 2 (28-oz.) cans whole peeled tomatoes, crushed
  • 1 (1-oz.) tub home-style concentrated beef stock (such as Knorr Homestyle Stock)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 cup whipping cream
  • 6 large pitted green olives, quartered
  • 3 sprigs fresh oregano
  • 1 sprig fresh rosemary
  • Table salt and black pepper
  • 1 (16-oz.) package penne pasta
  • 1/4 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil

How to Make

  1. Sauté onion, carrots, and celery in hot oil over medium until tender. Add garlic, and cook 2 minutes. Place onion mixture in a 6-quart slow cooker. Add beef and next 8 ingredients.
  2. Cover and cook on LOW 8 hours. Remove lid, and cook 1 hour. Break up any large pieces of beef; season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and place in bowls. Spoon meat sauce over pasta. Serve with Parmesan cheese and basil.
