Plant Details

These showy perennials bear fragrant, bell-shaped flowers on their upper stems. Uncommon in the South and difficult to find at nurseries, they prefer moist, fertile, well-drained soil. Once established, they resent being moved. Not browsed by deer.

A. bulleyana. From western China. Grows to 3 ft. tall, 1 ft. wide. Pale blue bells in autumn.

A. confusa. From western China. To 3 ft. tall, 2 ft. wide. Dark blue flowers in summer.

A. liliifolia. Native from central Europe to Siberia. To 112 ft. high, 1 ft. wide. Pale blue or white flowers in midsummer.
