Yellowish green leaves to 1 feet long are divided into ovate to lance-shaped leaflets; terminal leaflet reaches out like a tendril. Vigorous, rapid grower but not invasive. Can be grown as an annual. Needs more sun than other bleeding hearts, but it should be protected from hot afternoon sun. 'Athens Yellow' is a selection of the Himalayan species with deeper yellow blooms.
