Plant Details

This cool-season grass is native to eastern North America and Eurasia. Its colorful selection 'Aureum' forms a clump to 2 feet high and wide. Bright greenish gold leaves first grow erect, then take on arching, weeping form. Foliage is brightest in spring, turns light green by summer. In spring or late summer, it has delicate sprays of tiny golden flowers.

Effective for a spot of color in a woodland garden or shaded rock garden. Does best where summers are cool or mild; in hotter regions, plant goes partially dormant in summer. Seedlings usually have yellow foliage, though color may vary.
