Plant Details

Mostly native to Mediterranean region. Mounding plants or shrublets that brighten spring borders and rock gardens with their cheerful bloom. They thrive in poor, rocky soil as long as it is well drained.

alyssum montanum

  • To 8 inches high, 1 feet wide with leaves that are gray and dense; short clusters of fragrant yellow flowers.
  • The compact and heavy-flowering 'Berggold' ('Mountain Gold') is the most commonly sold variety.
  • Luna blooms 2 weeks earlier.

alyssum saxatile

alyssum wulfenianum

  • Prostrate and trailing to about 1 feet wide, with fleshy, silvery leaves and sheets of pale yellow flowers.
