Plant Details

From tropical Africa. Very showy, fast-growing tree to 4075 feet tall, 2050 feet wide. Glossy, deep green leaves to 112 feet long, divided featherwise into 9 to 19 oblong to ovate leaflets. Clusters of spectacular, tulip-shaped, 4 inches flowers in scarlet, blood red, or yellowish orange appear at branch ends. Blooms mainly in spring and summer, but flowers may appear in any season. Give good drainage and a warm site. This tree grows rapidly and blooms young, but it can be devastated by frosts. Best suited to south Florida.
