One man proved he was Army Strong.

Fourteen months ago William Guinn Jr. of Abilene, Texas looked in the mirror and didn’t like what he saw. Inspired to lose weight so he could ultimately join the Army, the father-of-four hit the gym—hard. In a Facebook post, Guinn explained that he began exercising with trainers and working out at Planet Fitness six days a week. Coupled with efforts to eat healthier, he shed a staggering 211 pounds in just over a year, and dropped his weight from 456 lbs. to 244 lbs.

At his new, slimmer size, not only did he feel better, he was also finally under the Army’s weight limit. Guinn told KTAB that one of the biggest motivations behind his weight loss was joining the military so he could follow in his grandparents' footsteps.

“It can be done and yes for those that didn’t know I was trying to get into the military,” he wrote on Facebook. “It will be a great start for my career and to push myself harder than ever before. I will graduate from basic and M.I.T and start my career.”

According to KTAB, Guinn was officially sworn in to the Army last week.
