Hope Hagerman

It’s a tale as old as time—mostly.

Forget candy, this Sherman, Arkansas man had a much sweeter Halloween treat for his girlfriend this year.

Unlike most Halloween tales, Hope Hagerman and Kolby Davis’ is one of pure romance. Dressed in costume as Belle and the Beast from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Davis shocked his girlfriend of seven years by getting down on one knee while they posed for photos with friends.

Like most couples costumes, the idea was Hagerman’s. "I didn't want to be the beast,” Davis recalled to KARK. “As soon as she asked me I was like no absolutely not.”

But after some thinking, Davis decided to use the situation to his advantage. The 26-year-old told Good Morning America that he had been looking for a unique way to propose to Hagerman for some time. “I wanted to have something that was just very special to her and also wanted to surprise her,” he said. “We have been talking about moving on and taking the next step so she’s kind of been expecting it.” And so on Saturday night he took his role as prince charming quite literally.

Davis carried the engagement ring in his beast costume for two hours while Hagerman, 25, and friends got ready for a party. When it was time to take photos, he pounced.

“He said, ‘Before we take pictures I need to talk to Hope for a second,’ and then he grabbed my hand and did it,” Hagerman, who says she felt like a real-life princess, recalled to GMA. “It was the greatest surprise ever.”

"It was worth being the beast so I could get the unique proposal," Kolby told KARK, and we couldn’t agree more. Congrats you two!
