Southern Living Announces the 2009 Idea House at Cinnamon Shore
In Port Aransas, Texas

Birmingham, AL – Continuing a 20 year tradition of showcasing incredible homes, Southern Living announces that one of only two Idea Houses this year will be at Cinnamon Shore in Port Aransas, Texas. The house will open for tours on June 6. Tickets will be $5 at the door and a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will benefit The Port Aransas Education Foundation.

“Each year, we choose our partners carefully taking into consideration the entire development of an area. We are thrilled to be working with Cinnamon Shore on what promises to be one of the most unique Idea Houses yet,” says Kristen Payne, Director of the Southern Living Homes Program. “Cinnamon Shore offers what we feel is a lifestyle choice – to live in a smaller footprint where the best amenities are incredible views, a well-appointed kitchen and a master retreat.”

“This is the first New Urbanism (or neo-traditional) development on Texas’s coastal bend,” said Jeff Lamkin, CEO of Sea Oats Group, developer of Cinnamon Shore. “This master-planned seaside development combines diverse housing, work places, retail amenities, parks and recreational facilities into one highly livable, walkable resort community, boasting a Simpler Way of Life™.”

Dungan Nequette Architects, known for their design of custom homes at Rosemary Beach in Florida, designed the home, with the idea that two or three families could stay at the house at one time.

“We wanted the home to have a clean look from the outside – iconic roof lines and not too much going on. We viewed it as an opportunity to bring our style to the Texas coast,” said Principal Architect Jeff Dungan. “The home is designed in three distinctive sections, so any way you look at it, it looks like its own village, but really there is the main house, a screened porch section and a detached garage.”

At 3,300 square-feet, the home is a generous size for a second home, and once completed, will sleep 16 people. A unique feature is that the main living space and kitchen are built on the second floor to take advantage of the views over the dunes.

Tracery Interiors, a sister firm of Dungan Nequette Architects, is handling the interior design – and has been involved in the project from the beginning, which is something Dungan views as crucial to the success of the project.

“We started with the concept that multiple families would be living in the house, and we wanted them to be comfortable,” said Paige Schnell, interior designer, Tracery Interiors. “We plan on decorating ‘classic beach,’ but with a modern twist – lots of fresh color, but mixing vintage pieces with new. Upstairs is a loft that we are outfitting as a ‘kids only’ hang-out.”
