We’ve uncovered the secret spots where locals shop.
Jennifer McKenzie Frazier

The locals shop The Heights and Hillcrest neighborhoods, so that’s where I’m heading in Little Rock. (Kavanaugh Boulevard, the main thoroughfare, is a must.) Shopping these quaint neighborhoods, I try to blend in with the natives―and find these five essential shops.

Box Turtle
Owner Emese Boone says she sells only unique items in her store. “I like to support our local artists. There are 30 to 40 of them here.” Shoppers swoon (I did) over the selection of jewelry, mostly made by local or independent artists, and silk-screened map T-shirts by Erin Lorenzen. Save enough time to browse―there’s an upstairs and a few rooms in this old house-turned-boutique.
What to buy: Personalized charm necklaces by Joella Peck Originals.

Bella Boutique
Jewelry is the main draw at this little store, but this wasn’t always the case. “I like to call this a bath-and-beauty store. I started out with about 10 pieces of jewelry. Now I have around 200 pieces, and that’s what really brings people in,” says owner Narcissa Jackson. Aside from the baubles, which range in price from $60 to $600, you’ll love the dog beds, hostess gifts, vases, and beauty products.
What to buy: Table Topics (a game with questions such as “If you could do something dangerous just once with no risk, what would you do?”)
5623 Kavanaugh Blvd.; (501) 603-5373

Tulips
Designer clothing brands―for mom and baby. That’s what you find at this Pepto-pink-painted boutique that’s known for selling the biggest names in fashion.
What to buy: Juicy Couture diaper bags and outfits for baby.

Gallery 26
Enjoy the artwork at this little gallery where about 60 artists from Arkansas show off their talents. You’ll find pieces that range in price from $20 to $5,000 and jewelry that starts at only $10. Works are rotated often, so stop by regularly.
What to buy: Handmade jewelry.

Haus Werk
One room of baby clothing and gear. One room of women’s clothing. One room of home decor items. Haus Werk features loads of space full of fabulous shopping finds.
What to buy: The Good Earth Dinnerware (plates, casseroles, and canisters) from Mississippi.
