A sweet hostess gift doesn't have to be expensive. Sometimes, the kindest gestures are a personalized token of your gratitude (and, a little caffeinated pick-me-up for your friend!). These Dip-Dyed Coffee Mugs take everyday, household materials and use them to upgrade a plain white mug. The technique gives your drinkware a fun, watercolor-like look, and it couldn't be much simpler to DIY. Start by using a piece of disposable Tupperware, and fill it with cool water. The container will likely be stained, so be sure to use something that you're willing to part with. Next, slowly pour a small amount of the nail polish into the water. Then, take the toothpick and swirl the polish, creating a design. Try using a few different colors and experimenting with combinations and patterns. The nail polish dries quickly, though, so don't let it sit for too long. Dip your mug into the nail polish, and gently rotate it so that the mug picks up the colors. Place it on a piece of parchment paper to dry. Add a coat of dishwasher-safe gloss to your colorful DIY, and brew a cup of your favorite joe! Or, round up a few of your favorite tea bags, some shortbread cookies, and a little cellophane bag to make a friends' day.
