Every evening feels like a vacation in a bedroom that takes its inspiration from the clean colors and lines of a chic luxury hotel room.
You might think you have to hold on tightly to your wallet when a designer gets involved in a project. But in this new home in Cartersville, Georgia, designer Beverly Baribault gave homeowner Natalie Ponder the posh beach resort look she craved without breaking the budget. Proceed with caution: Designer secrets revealed at top speed ahead.
The Fabric Jackpot
Because a bedroom can consume a lot of fabric with draperies and bedding, the bills can really pile up. To avoid spending
too much at once, Beverly visited one of her favorite Atlanta fabric stores, Lewis & Sheron Textile Co. (which is open to
the public, not just designers), and found a large bolt of great-looking linen for $10 per yard. She used it on the windows,
upholstered headboard, and bed skirt.
Simple, No-Fuss Details
Roman shades flanking the bed are mounted inside the window molding. A large window is softened with simple panels, also in
the crisp linen. The blue-green rod mounted just below the crown is coated with a silver finish, adding another layer of color.
Posh for the Right Price
If bed-in-a-bag isn't your style and workroom fees aren't in the budget, here's a terrific option to get a custom look without
paying for it. Beverly purchased a quilted silk coverlet from a department store. The square pattern on the bedding adds visual
interest to the bed, but it's the bold pillows that make the bed look like a million bucks. The chocolate-and-robin's egg
blue palm print was the splurge in the space, but limiting it to pillows made it budget-friendly.
Serene Look for the Bath
Beverly was also a huge help when it came to stretching the dollar to achieve the spa look for less. She designed a vanity
with an open space below and covered it in glossy subway tile from a home-improvement store. The vessel sinks were in-stock
items; a shelf below is filled with baskets of towels. Natalie uses the linen closet to store toiletries.
A trio of photographs hangs above the tub. Natalie took pictures of her little girls' feet and had friend and graphic artist Franscoise Evans develop them in sepia-tone on canvas. So when your next redo comes along, don't shudder at the thought of hiring a designer. Think of all the creative style you may miss out on!
