Freshly Painted Fireplace
Although every surface in the room begged for a fresh coat of paint, the Carrolls were most eager to set their brushes loose
on the fireplace wall. Layered in jagged fieldstone with dark mortar, it and the raised hearth had always bothered them. “This
entire wall was the biggest eyesore in the room,” Anne Turner says. “Painting it left the texture but took the unsightly color
away.”
The den’s parquet flooring had also worn out its welcome. Because replacing it wasn’t in their budget, they reached for their
rollers and painted it instead.
For the walls and ceiling, the couple relied on a unifying paint job to make the room feel less confining. A soft, khaki paint
color on the trim adds pleasing contrast.
