Create a custom coffee table by selecting urns or pedestals for the base. Make sure they have large enough openings or tops to support the size board you choose.

Tools & Materials
  • urns or pedestals to use as bases
  • pine or birch board cut to size
  • sandpaper
  • paintbrush
  • primer
  • white or your choice of paint color
  • pewter or your choice of glaze
  • clear sealant
  • decorative trim and upholstery tacks
  • tack hammer

Step 1:
Cut a pine or birch board to the size specifications that best suit your living space. Smooth any rough edges with sandpaper.

Step 2:
Apply a primer to the entire board, and let dry. Next apply white paint, and allow it to dry completely.

Step 3:
Add pewter glaze by applying with a paintbrush in a swirled or rough brush pattern. Let dry, and then use a clear protective sealant to finish the tabletop.

Step 4:
Attach decorative trim by hammering upholstery tacks through the trim and into the edge of the board.
