Before: Cramped Quarters

Jennifer and Don Spak transformed the guest bedroom in their McKinney, Texas, home into their dream bath. The renovation was easy because no walls had to be removed and only one door was closed off. After that, the space was quickly turned into a relaxing retreat. Keep reading to find out how they did it.

A black pedestal tub was placed next to the window, creating an ideal spot for soaking in the sunlight. The breezy white shower curtain hanging from a rod above the tub blends in nicely with the sheer curtains on the window.

After: Cool Touch

The color palette creates a fresh vibe within the bath. The walls are painted pale turquoise, while the beaded board is bright white. To tie in the color of the tub, Jennifer chose black granite for the countertops and black-and-white-checkered tile for the walls of the shower.

Jennifer wanted the bath to mesh with the existing style of the cottage, so she filled it with a mix of traditional and modern touches. A glass-front cabinet, which was painted yellow on the inside, is a distinctive way to display towels and linens. Instead of a standard light fixture, a chandelier was hung, producing a romantic glow.

Tips for Creating a Tranquil Bathroom

Use a rug. Whether antique or contemporary, a rug will make any bath come alive. Plus, it will feel good to your bare toes.

Add light. A chandelier is a great way to dress up a bath. If you’re not interested in using a formal piece, go for a modern light fixture, or place lamps around the room.

Include furniture. Putting a small chair or ottoman next to the tub will create a comfortable look, and you’ll have a place to sit after your bubble bath.

Flatter your walls. Covering the walls around the vanities and tub with interesting artwork provides a sophisticated air and expresses your style.
