2005 Southern Home Awards: Resort Style at Home

The homeowner teamed with architect Alan Dynerman to create this space. "Our intention was to develop an experience that fully engages and integrates building and landscape, inside and outside," Alan explains.

Located on a mountain bluff in Northeast Alabama, the pool house has the feel of an open-air pavilion. It includes a living and dining area, a kitchen, an exercise area, two changing rooms, and, yes, even a sauna--all in 1,700 square feet. The ceiling, painted a blue-green hue, is made up of panels separated by skylights. Glass doors open completely to join the interior with the pool and its surroundings.
