Springfield: Jacksonville, FL
Where Hip Meets History
The great fire of 1901, which destroyed most of downtown Jacksonville, spared the Springfield neighborhood. However, what
fire didn’t do, poor zoning and suburban flight almost accomplished in this historic area north of downtown. But today you
can see potential. Prairie-style and gingerbread Queen Anne homes, some lovingly restored and others waiting their chance,
share the streets with trees draped in Spanish moss.
Children from the Springfield Mommies Group hurry to Klutho Park at the southern edge of the neighborhood.
