Tell us about yourself.
I'm an administrative assistant for the marketing department for an investment advising firm in Dallas, Texas.  I have been happily married for 5 years and just welcomed our first-born son, Julian, in August 2010.  I like reading nonfiction mystery books, spending time with my family, and sleeping on the weekends when I get a chance.

When were you diagnosed?

How has cancer changed your outlook on life?
When you are diagnosed with cancer at the age of 29, it's hard to come out of that unaffected. I felt I was alone in a world where breast cancer never affects twenty-somethings. I was embarrassed at first. I mean, that was the biggest scare I've had in my life and to have to make life-altering decisions at that age versus what all my other peers were doing (getting married, having babies) was a total let down. Now, I feel as though I can conquer anything since I'm a survivor. I never wanted to be a part of the cancer club, but my cards were dealt, and I definitely came out a stronger person, something I definitely would not change. As the saying goes, "life is what you make of it." I chose to stand up and overcome the biggest obstacle in my life which produced a closer relationship with my family and friends. I guess I could say it was a gift received after my battle with cancer.

What words of encouragement would you share with others with cancer?
Keep your head up and think positive thoughts. Even during times when you are at your worst, KEEP THINKING POSITIVE!! Surround yourself with people you love and laugh a lot. Laughter can sometimes be the best medicine.
