Meet Clara Roark    

Tell us about yourself.
For the past 10 years I have worked at PT PROS Inc. in Corbin, Kentucky, where I am presently am an office manager trainer. I married my high school sweetheart, Kennon Roark, who is a minister where we live. In September we will celebrate 37 years of marriage. My life has been blessed with two wonderful children, Joy, 34, and Jonathan, 33, and even double blessed with grandchildren who are twin girls named Hope Elizabeth and Faith Nicole, both 7 years old. I attend church where my husband pastors at Salt Gum Baptist Church. Most of my time is spent at church, being with my grandchildren, working and enjoying Kentucky Basketball. GO CATS GO!!!

How has cancer changed your outlook on life?
Cancer in many ways is a scary word, but it is also a word that when caught early enough can save your life. I thank God that my cancer was caught early through the detection of a mammogram. I can’t express enough how important regular screenings are for everyone, men and women. Life is precious, and every moment is a time to cherish.

What words of encouragement would you share with others with cancer?
First, I would advise someone who has cancer to talk to others who have had cancer. Advice from stories of admiration, encouragement, and even sympathy is what someone needs to hear. Next, I would say to stay positive because a negative attitude can never win.
