Meet Claire Hamilton

Tell us about yourself.
I am married to the love of my life and best friend, Brandon Hamilton. We have one four-legged fur baby, a Brittany named Graham. I am an accountant, and in my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, shopping, exercise, and traveling.

When were you diagnosed?
Friday, July 13, 2007... I've become a little superstitious about Friday the 13th's now!

How has cancer changed your outlook on life?
It's made me realize how many wonderful people I have in my life that love and care about me. I received an amazing outreach of support when I was diagnosed, and I now more than ever realize how much I have been blessed with in life. I try to enjoy each and every day to the fullest and not sweat the small stuff as much anymore.

What words of encouragement would you share with others with cancer?
I know first hand that when you are diagnosed with cancer, it is very emotional and overwhelming. You will certainly have feelings of fright and anger and may want to scream and cry, but try your very best to keep a good attitude. We're all allowed bad days, but when you are feeling down, try to think of all the good in your life versus the bad. I truly think a positive outlook on life is half the battle! Stay strong!

They are a group of women from my hometown of Anniston, Alabama, and when I was diagnosed, my great aunt contacted them about me. I, along with any other breast cancer patients they hear about, are mailed a care package of goodies including hand-stiched hats and such. This group of women have been very kind to me and are truly angels!
