Heroes of the New South Awards

The editors at Southern Living wish to honor today’s heroes of civil rights. Send us your recommendations for outstanding individuals or groups who deserve acknowledgement. The winners will appear in the September 2013 issue of Southern Living.

Our second Heroes of the New South Awards will recognize groups and individuals breaking down the barriers that inhibit liberty, opportunity, and dignity for all people, without discrimination.

They are teachers, historians, artists, and advocates.They may lead an NGO, give voice to an unheard minority, interpret history through art or performance, or fight to overturn unjust laws. They are stewards of history, preachers of change, and committed to our region’s future.

Please help us by nominating an individual or group that is making a difference today. The winners will be celebrated in the September 2013 issue of Southern Living, online, and in other venues that will help amplify the impact of their work.
