By Evan Farmer, host of the 2011 CMT Music Awards
The CMT Music Awards is the first and only entirely fan-voted awards show dedicated to country music videos and television performances. It’s been held every year since 2002 in Nashville, TN and is broadcast live on CMT and streamed live on CMT.COM. It’s a night filled with some of the biggest performances, collaborations, and surprises in music…period!
The “big 10” awards (as I like to call them) are what get presented live throughout the evening and are:
- Video of the Year
- Duo Video of the Year
- Group Video of the Year
- Male Video of the Year
- Female Video of the Year
- Collaborative Video of the Year
- CMT Performance of the Year
- USA Weekend Breakthrough Video of the Year
- Video Director of the Year
- Best Web Video of the Year
Here’s the extremely cool part: all awards are entirely fan-voted. VOTE NOW ON CMT.COM and up until 5:59 on June 7th, 2011. The Video Of The Year category however, will not even be narrowed down from the 10 nominees to 5 until the opening of the show! Voting for this-category-only will continue until the very end of the show, when the biggest award from the biggest awards show of the year will be announced!
Also, if you have a Verizon phone, you can text your votes up to the very last minute right from your phone. For instructions visit: http://www.cmt.com/cmt-music-awards/voting-rules.jhtml.
That’s it! It’s simple, and it’s entirely up to the fans which is why, in my experience, this is the one awards show that the artists themselves value the most. There’s no hiding behind clever publicists, great marketing, or backroom deals – either the fans love you the most, or they don’t. The stakes really couldn’t be higher which is why I’m always prevented by force from drinking any caffeine on the red carpet (more on that later).
Stay tuned for next week’s installment, and go vote!
