, was texting weather alerts to friends when his house collapsed on him and his father and 16-year-old sister. The last text he sent before his phone was sucked out of his hands was “Get to a safe place.”
“When I was about 4 or 5, a big storm came through and it blew down our apple tree. That’s when I thought, ‘We could have been killed.’ And I felt like I needed to start keeping up with the weather.”
