The Southern Living Guide to Mayonnaise BrandsEssential reading on a most essential condiment
Hi. I'm Kimberly Schlegel Whitman, editor-at-large at Southern Living. Summer entertaining in the south is just the best. It is my favorite time of the year, especially the 4th of July. And if you're gonna be hosting a 4th of July celebration, then I have a few really simple little tips for you. First of all, pull out those sparkly lights. There's just nothing better than having twinkle lights strung up above your picnic table, just gives you such a fun and festive feeling. And, of course, it goes along with all those sparklers that you can pull out after dinner and after dark when you're watching the fireworks. It's such great family fun. One of my favorite simple tips for summer entertaining will help you keep your dish cool out in the heat. If you take a large bowl and fill it with ice, you can then stick a small or medium bowl inside of that with whatever you'd like to serve that you need to keep cool and to keep everything fresh for hours. The perfect southern summer menu for an outdoor celebration has got to include corn on the cob and grilled kabobs. I mean, it's such a great combination. Of course, you have to add in some other salads and things, too, a great potato salad or, or a green bean salad but there's nothing like that corn on the cob for a great summer celebration.
