Making a Ganache

Learn how to make this delicious yet easy dessert from our Test Kitchens Professional, Marian Cairns.

Hi, I'm Marion with The Southern Living Test Kitchen. Chocolate ganache is one of the easiest frostings to make, and it only has three ingredients. Cream, chocolate, and butter, just to make it extra rich. To start, place your chocolate in a bowl, and you're gonna pour your cream over that. Then we're gonna microwave this on medium power for about two to three minutes, just until that chocolate is melted. You don't want the mixture to come to a boil. After you've microwaved the cream and chocolate together, whisk it together so the chocolate's melted and the mixture is smooth. Now my chocolate is melted, I'm gonna stir in the butter. Keep whisking until it's melted. This'll give it a extra rich taste. Alright, that butter is melted. We're just gonna let this stand for about 20 minutes. You want the mixture to be lukewarm and still pourable, but cool enough so it'll stick to the sides of the cake layers. Okay I have my cake layers ready. The chocolate looks just right like I said before, you want it to be lukewarm but it still needs to be pretty pourable. I am going to pour this on the center of the cake. Now spread this on the center of the cake. Not too much. You wanted to have a smooth coating and then just do the sides the cake last. Now let this stand for about one hour, so it's easier to slice. If you want to enjoy this a little sooner, you can pop it in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes.
