As a child growing up in Huntsville, Alabama, Danny Henderson spent lots of time in the kitchen watching his mother cook. Today, this full-time attorney and part-time barbecue enthusiast rekindles the spirit of his mother's culinary lessons with his annual New Year's Day barbecue. "It's a chance for us to get together, think about the past year's blessings, and wish each other good luck for the coming year--and, of course, spend the afternoon eating great barbecue," says Danny.

He has been perfecting his barbecuing technique for almost 15 years, and he believes his rub mixture--seasoned vinegar, brown sugar, and pepper--is the secret to the pork's great flavor.
