When we are looking for style inspiration with some big-city flair, we turn to Krystal Schlegel. The Texas trendsetter (and sister of Southern Living contributor editor Kimberly Schlegel Whitman) offers an editorialized take on sophisticated fashion mixed in with yummy recipes like this pumpkin spiced latte we are sipping on right now (we love everything pumpkin in the fall!).
We checked in with Krystal on Dallas style, fall must-haves, and what designers Tory Burch and Manolo Blahnik have to say about Southern women.
Personal style: Classic with a bit of an edge. I like to always look polished and put together. You'll only find me in flats at the airport or the gym.
Fall shopping list: Leather jackets, chunky sweaters, and booties.
City fashion: Dallas women love to get dressed up. We joke that women here wouldn't dare go to the grocery store without getting done up. Dallas gets very excited about fashion.
Southern style icon: I love the iconic 70s style of fellow Texan Farrah Fawcett. Big blonde waves, gold accessories, and a summer glow. As for modern-day, I always think Reese Witherspoon looks flawless on the red carpet.
Made in the South: Mi Golondrina is a beautiful line of hand-embroidered nightgowns and bedding started by Dallas-based Christina Lynch. The night gowns are so beautiful I would wear them as a dress.
A Southern woman never leaves the house without: lip balm, mints, and a big smile!
On Southern fashion: Southern women always look effortlessly put together. I have interviewed Tory Burch, Manolo Blahnik, and Diane Von Furstenberg, and they have all said they love how Southern women dress up for every occasion.
