For most, the need for coffee overrides any preference for how to drink it.

But etiquette expert Myka Meier shared with Cosmopolitan that there is actually a right way to tote your cup 'o joe, and there's a good chance it's different than what you do.

According to Meier, here's what you've got to do: Curve your index finger through the handle while keeping your thumb on top of the handle. Then curl the remaining three fingers into the bottom of your hand. Also, the cup should be positioned at 3 o' clock, which will help keep your lipstick marks all in one place.

But that's not all. Meier also has some suggestion for tea drinkers: Don't loop your index finger into the handle, instead have your thumb and index finger meeting in the middle, almost pinching the handle, with your middle finger supporting the other two underneath the handle.

Here's to hoping no one corrects your coffee mug holding methods before you've actually had your first cup of the day.
