Crunch. Chew. Wow.

As any Memphis native knows, this might as well be the motto for the showstopping bird at Gus’s. And on Tuesday, September 27th, Forbes crowned Gus’s with its latest accolade: “The Best Fried Chicken in America Is in Memphis,Tennessee.”

The unobtainium in flash-fried perfection, Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken rendered the Forbes’ writer completely ecstatic: “What makes Gus's chicken so staggeringly awesome is its crispy outside shell and deliriously juicy meat. At the moment I began to eat my fried chicken, I had an epiphany: This is quite simply The Best Fried Chicken I've Ever Had. It was like looking at a Picasso and not needing to see a lot of bad art in order to know you were standing in front of something great,” wrote Susannah Breslin.

“Eating my way through my fried chicken, a fantasy began to evolve in my mind. I imagined moving to Memphis. I would eat Gus's fried chicken every day. I would eat nothing else. Just this.”

So impressed Breslin was, she even left $8.91 on her $11.09 order. As for us? We’re hoping that Gus’s newest honor puts the South’s neverending fried chicken debate back in the coop for a bit. Or at least inspires you to make a pilgrimage to their red-checkered tables in the near future.

Currently, you can dive into Gus’s offerings in 22 locations throughout the U.S., and stretching as far as Los Angeles and Detroit. But something about getting your fix of that “world famous” bird in its hometown is tough to beat.

If you’re still skeptical, consider Breslin’s choice words: “Why couldn't more things in life be like this fried chicken?” Amen.
