Through fanciful illustrations and wise, wacky words, Dr. Seuss subtly taught generations of children that they are important in this big, wide, world. March 2 marks the celebration of his birth and for over 20 years we have commemorated his legacy in classrooms with celebrity book readings, dress-up day, and parades in Read Across America. Not only are children learning the love of reading in a fun way, the story always ends with a positive message. To continue the fight against illiteracy, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library was launched in 1995 to help foster a love of reading in the children in her home county of East Tennessee. Since then over 80 million books have been shipped across the United States, into Canada, and over to Great Britain. My favorite Dr. Seuss book as a kid was Green Eggs and Ham which teaches a simple lesson: don’t be quick to judge something before you have all the facts. My boy’s favorite book was Go Dog Go. We read it every night which brings back such sweet memories of when they were little and wanted to sit in my lap.
