The countdown is on as the new home for the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United FC prepares to host its first major event. And even though it has nothing to do with football or soccer, it’s a complete game changer nonetheless.
The soon-to-be-unveiled, 75,000-plus seat stadium will provide ticket holders and event-goers with the ultimate view of downtown Atlanta, all while seated under a retractable roof and surrounded by a high-definition halo video board. But on October 12, 2017, the Mercedes-Benz Stadium will hold its first-ever concert special—a doubleheader showcasing country music’s husband-wife duo Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood.

The Country Music Hall of Famer and Oklahoma native announced the news on Thursday, June 22, via video on Facebook Live:
I’m thrilled to be back in Atlanta and honored to play the first concert in Mercedes-Benz Stadium,” Brooks said in the official press release. “I’ve visited the stadium twice in the last month and all I can say is—the fans are going to love it; it’s truly one-of-a-kind. We’re going to create a special experience the fans will never forget and I can’t wait to light that place up this fall!
Echoing that sentiment was Tim Zulawski, SVP and chief commercial officer of AMB Sports and Entertainment:
“Mercedes-Benz Stadium is focused on delivering an unmatched guest experience to everyone who enters the building,” said Zulawski. “It was important for us to not only find an artist who could deliver the biggest show in the world, but also has the same fan-focused ideals. We know the best artist who can deliver and that is Garth Brooks.”
Cadillac Jack, host of Atlanta's Kicks 101.5 told Southern Living, "There is no bigger artist that MB Stadium could have tapped to play the inugural concert. I spoke with Garth and he is fired up as is his wife, Georgia native and Falcons fan, Trisha Yearwood."
Tickets will go on sale this Friday, June 30 at 10:00 a.m. eastern time, and they may also be purchased on Ticketmaster or by calling (800) 745-3000.
