"At any given moment, there’s a little voice in my head . . . that’s constantly telling me, 'Way to go, Chip, that was so funny!’”

The best defense against body shamers? The voice in your own head.

At least that’s what works for Fixer Upper’s resident goofball, Chip Gaines. In the most recent edition of The Magnolia Journal—aptly named the “Summer Confidence” issue—Gaines revealed that his unabashed goofiness all stems from his abundance of self confidence.

"If I could bottle it up and sell it, I would!" he said. "I’m convinced it would make me millions." Honestly, Chip, if you’re selling, we’re buying.

Another positive side effect? Nobody can bring the 42-year-old down… even when he takes his shirt off for no reason. "At any given moment, there’s a little voice in my head . . . that’s constantly telling me, 'Way to go, Chip, that was so funny!’ and ‘Hey, Chip, you look good in that size medium T-shirt!’ A few times (it's) even told me my dad bod is rockin'," he explained.

The home reno king also credits the little voice in his head with landing him the love of his life. “Without this positive self-talk, I don’t think I ever would have had the guts to ask Joanna out on our first date,” he added.

There’s certainly a lot we can learn from the handsome contractor, and not just how to repurpose shiplap.
