Just because you want a winter appetizer it doesn’t mean that everything always should be hot.
Case in point: our recipe for Quick Winter Pickled Veggies. And while pickles may not seem very seasonal, you can always up the ‘enjoy-it-now’ quotient by working with winter vegetables. Cauliflower florets, Swiss chard, Brussels sprouts, and green beans all work perfectly for pickling. Or, update a spinach classic and make some Warm Kale-and-Asiago Dip packed with the smoky crunch of crisp bacon. If you prefer a slightly spicier dip, Muffuletta Dip is the perfect choice: it’s Southern, with Big-Easy inspired flavors, and is packed with peppers, Parmesan, and salami.
Just thinking about slathering it onto some crostini, crackers, or a slice of bread is enough to warm you up inside. If you want a grab-and-go snack from the appetizer table, some savory Bacon, Cheddar, and Chive Scones are just the thing. Or, when the guests arrive and your winter holiday parties are in full-swing, you’ll relax knowing that a platter of Sweet Potato Tartlets, bowls of Benne-Maple Roasted Pecans, and a tray of Mushroom Puffs will have them happy.
